AES New York Presents: The Future of Open-Source Immersive Audio
Doors open at 5:00pm, event is open-house until 8:00pm
The Alliance for Open Media (AOMedia) has quickly become a hub for major open-source projects in video, images, 3D graphics and now also audio. Chief among the audio efforts at AOMedia is Immersive Audio Model and Formats (IAMF), the technical name for the audio spec that powers Eclipsa Audio. This is a new specification with support for lossless and lossy audio presented as channel-based, scene-based (Ambisonics), and binaural.
The AES New York Section invites both members and non-members to attend an evening featuring listening demonstrations of Eclipsa Audio playing on a professional 7.1.4 reference system with direct comparisons of the same content playing from streaming services on a conventional home-theater soundbar system. Listeners will be able to hear immediately how well Eclipsa Audio mixes translate when going from the studio to the consumer’s living room.
In addition to hearing Eclipsa Audio on loudspeakers, attendees will have the opportunity to compare the new Open Binaural Renderer (OBR) to conventional stereo in a controlled environment with high-end consumer headphones. OBR represents the latest research in three-dimensional binaural delivery and has not been heard widely on consumer devices.
Software engineers working on IAMF at AOMedia member companies will be on-hand to answer questions and discuss the finer details in the evolving IAMF specification.
Food and refreshments will be served, and there will be ample opportunities to network with AES New York colleagues at the event. Students are welcome. Questions about the event can be emailed to info@immersive-machines.com. Attendees will have the opportunity to get a unique discount code for the purchase of Immersive Master Pro.
