How to listen to Eclipsa Audio on YouTube

Using Google Chrome Canary to play immersive 7.1.4 Eclipsa Audio on YouTube

Here at Immersive Machines, we’re pretty excited about listening to Eclipsa Audio on YouTube. Support for the format is being gradually phased-in to Chrome on Windows and macOS. As of summer ’26, here’s the professional’s guide to playing 7.1.4 mixes on YouTube in the immersive studio:

1. Download Chrome Canary https://www.google.com/chrome/canary/

3. On macOS, choose a multichannel Core Audio device as your Sound Output. Go to Configure Speakers… and make sure that the device matches your listening room (5.1, 7.1.4, etc.)

4. Quit Google Chrome Canary.

5. On macOS, open Terminal and enter this command which will launch Chrome Canary and enable IAMF decode:

/Applications/Google\ Chrome\ Canary.app/Contents/MacOS/Google\ Chrome\ Canary --enable-features=IamfAudioDecoding

6. Go to http://youtube.com/tv and sign in. You will see a home theater interface for YouTube.

7. Navigate to an Eclipsa Audio playlist such as this one: https://www.youtube.com/@EclipsaAudioMusic

8. If you click on the gear icon in YouTube and select “Stats for nerds” you can verify immersive playback.

“Opus (773)” is the indicator that 7.1.4 decode is currently engaged. If you see “Opus (251)” you are likely decoding stereo.

Yes, that’s a lot of steps. But as IAMF enters the primary Chrome channels, this will get significantly easier in the near future.

Immersive Master Pro 1.5 is now in alpha. New features include Eclipsa Audio (IAMF) encoding and batch MP4 creation in both Simple and Base profiles. We’re continuing to add features, refine workflows, and squash bugs, and we’re hearing successful 7.1.4 playback on YouTube. Email info@immersive-machines.com for more information or if you would like access to an alpha build.
