There's a new Dolby Atmos consumer format. Join us in New York City for a double-blind listening event to hear it.

Immersive Machines and Engine Room Audio host an AES New York Section Event

  • Double-Blind Listening - Object-Based Immersive Encoder Comparison

  • Date & Time: Friday, November 14, 5:00–8:00 PM

  • Location: Engine Room Audio, 42 Broadway, 22nd Floor, New York, NY

  • Tickets: Click here for tickets to the event. Students and current AES Members: $5 – Non AES Members: $15

What will your work sound like when the consumer hears it? At Immersive Machines, we take that question very seriously. The vast majority of consumers are currently listening to DD+JOC. But Dolby has been working tirelessly behind the scenes, and we have a unique opportunity to hear that work in what might be the sound of the future: AC-4.

Immersive Master Pro 1.3 will feature batch export of Dolby Atmos-encoded MP4s in both DD+JOC and AC-4. Join us for food, drinks and a double-blind object-based immersive encoder shootout in Engine Room Audio's famed Dolby Atmos mixing room.

A good portion of the Immersive Machines team will be on hand to demo and discuss Immersive Master Pro 1.3. We hope you can join us. And if you are attending and want to submit an ADM for inclusion in the listening shootout, contact us by November 11th at info@immersive-machines.com. See you there!

Batch-encode MP4s in Dolby’s real-world playback formats — DD+JOC and AC-4

– coming soon –

Building a high-fidelity low bit-rate delivery system for streaming immersive music poses significant perceptual and technical challenges. The majority of consumers currently listening to immersive music are hearing the lossy format Dolby Digital Plus with Joint Object Coding (DD+JOC), which has the advantage of backwards compatibility. A newer, non-backwards compatible codec referred to as Dolby Audio Coding (AC-4) has become available for commercial deployment and is designed with the intention of achieving higher fidelity than DD+JOC.

This event will feature a double-blind listening test that puts lossless 7.1.4 up against DD+JOC and AC-4 on a high-quality professional playback system. Attendees will have the opportunity to choose listening material, and solo speaker channels. There will be a short technical discussion from software engineers familiar with these codecs.
